Meet your caregiver

A caring heart, a steady home, and a love for little ones.

Hi, I'm Priya — the heart (and often the hands, the hugs, and the storyteller) behind Harmony Kids. I've spent years caring for young children, first as an Early Childhood Educator in school-based daycare programs, and now in my own home right here in Alliston.

I started Harmony Kids because I believe the early years are sacred. In our home, children are never rushed through their days. They're gently encouraged to explore, to ask questions, to feel their feelings, and to trust that they are deeply welcomed and loved — every single morning, even the hard ones.

"My philosophy is simple: a calm, predictable day with a caregiver who truly knows your child is the foundation for everything that comes next."

Your peace of mind

Our own high standards, transparently shared.

Harmony Kids is an independent, unlicensed home child care program. That means we're not overseen by a licensed agency — and it also means we choose every safety practice ourselves, because we believe parents deserve to know exactly what keeps their children safe in our home.

Our Commitment to You

Transparent by choice, careful by nature

Important, honest disclosure: This child care program is not licensed by the Government of Ontario. Ontario law permits independent home child care providers like us to operate without a licence, within specific limits. We share this openly with every family, and we hold ourselves to many of the same standards licensed programs follow — because we believe that's what thoughtful care looks like.

Our learning approach

Play is how children build the world inside their minds.

Our program is inspired by Ontario's How Does Learning Happen? pedagogical framework. We see every child as competent, capable, and curious — and we design environments that invite them to make meaning through hands-on, child-led play.

01

Belonging

Every child begins each day knowing they are expected, welcomed, and remembered here.

02

Well-Being

Emotional safety, healthy food, restful naps, and gross-motor play give children the steady base they need to learn.

03

Engagement

Open-ended materials and uninterrupted play time invite deep, focused exploration — the root of all learning.

04

Expression

Art, music, drama, and rich conversation give children many "languages" to share who they are becoming.

Meals & nutrition

Home-cooked meals, made with real ingredients and real care.

Every meal and snack is prepared fresh in our kitchen, following Canada's Food Guide and drawing on the nutrition standards Ontario sets for licensed child care programs. Menus rotate weekly and celebrate the diverse cultural foods of our community.

We take allergies, intolerances, and family preferences seriously — from gluten-free to vegetarian to dairy-free, we work with each family to make sure every child is nourished safely and joyfully.

Honest answers

Questions we love to be asked.

Can't find what you're looking for? Send us a note — we usually reply within a few hours.

What are your hours and which holidays are you closed? +
We're open Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. We're closed on all Ontario statutory holidays, plus one week in late December and one week in late summer for rest and professional development. Families receive a full annual calendar in their welcome package.
What happens if my child gets sick at daycare? +
We follow Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit guidelines closely. If your child develops a fever over 38°C, persistent vomiting, diarrhea, or signs of a communicable illness, we'll contact you right away and ask that they be picked up within the hour. Children need to be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning. We never guilt-trip sick-day pick-ups — it's what keeps every child healthy.
How do you handle allergies and dietary restrictions? +
Very seriously. Every family completes a detailed intake form covering allergies, intolerances, religious or cultural food requirements, and preferences. We maintain allergy-safe zones, read every ingredient label, and train on every child's emergency action plan (including epinephrine auto-injector use). We happily accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free diets.
How many children are in your care, and what are the age limits? +
As an independent home child care provider in Ontario, I'm permitted to care for a maximum of 5 children under age 13, with no more than 3 under age 2 and no more than 2 under age 1. In practice, I keep my groups even smaller than the legal maximum to ensure every child gets the unhurried attention they deserve. Because I'm the consistent caregiver every day, children form a deep, trusting relationship with one familiar adult — something research strongly supports for healthy attachment.
How much does enrollment cost, and how does billing work? +
Our full-time rates vary depending on age group and schedule, with part-time options available. Billing is handled monthly, and tax receipts are issued annually for your federal T778 Child Care Expenses Deduction. A detailed fee schedule is shared during your family visit. Please note: as an unlicensed program, we are not part of Ontario's CWELCC (Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care) fee-reduction system, which is currently available only through licensed providers.
Can I visit before enrolling? +
Please do — we strongly encourage it! Every family visits in person before enrolling. You'll tour the space, meet Priya, see the children at play (with parent permission), and ask every question on your heart. We also offer two optional "stay and play" transition sessions in your child's first week, free of charge.
Are you licensed? What does "unlicensed" mean in Ontario? +

This child care program is not licensed by the Government of Ontario. In Ontario, independent home child care providers are legally permitted to operate without a licence, as long as we follow specific rules on group size, age mix, and parent disclosure — all of which I follow closely.

"Unlicensed" simply means I operate independently rather than through a licensed home child care agency. It doesn't describe the quality of care — it describes the regulatory structure. Many excellent home providers in Ontario operate this way, and parents often prefer the consistency of one dedicated caregiver rather than an agency-managed rotation.

I'm transparent about my qualifications, safety practices, and routines, and you'll receive this disclosure in writing as part of enrollment. If you'd prefer licensed home care, I'm happy to point you toward reputable agencies in our area — finding the right fit matters more to me than filling a spot.

How do you handle naps, and what if my child doesn't nap anymore? +
Quiet time is between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Toddlers and younger preschoolers typically have one longer nap on their own floor mat with their own blanket from home. Children who've outgrown naps enjoy quiet reading, puzzles, or gentle solo play in a separate calm space — we never force sleep.
